Perché alcuni Paesi hanno più di un provider? Perché alcuni provider hanno più di una tecnologia?

Ci sono molte reti in Paesi diversi, e diverse tecnologie che possono essere usate all'interno di ciascuna rete. Il sito ti permette di esplorarle nel dettaglio. I provider vengono selezionati tramite un codice nazione (MCC) e un codice di rete (MNC). Il MCC viene assegnato dall'International Telecommuncations Union (ITU), mentre il MNC viene definito dal Paese stesso.

La posizione delle Stazioni è decisamente sbagliata, nel bel mezzo dell'acqua o in cima ad una montagna

La collocazione delle Stazioni è puramente basata su dei calcoli. La ragione per cui le torri vengono posizionate sull'acqua è a causa del fatto che, generalmente, l'acqua non contiene alcun tipo di ostacolo che possa bloccare i segnali. Per cui, per l'algoritmo, l'essere seduti all'interno di un edificio adiacente ad una Stazione apparirà allo stesso modo dell'essere a 5km di distanza - ma in linea diretta e in vista - della medesima stazione. Pertanto, calcolerà una media dei due punti e posizionerà il segnalino lì. Il terreno ideale per la stima della posizione delle Stazioni è un terreno completamente piatto, con Stazioni ben distanziate. Detto questo, anche questa condizione non garantisce che un posizionamento corretto se le misure fornite dal telefono sono incorrette. Perché una Stazione venga calcolata in modo corretto, dovrai spostarti in modo circolare attorno alla Stazione stessa per almeno 180 o 270 gradi nei pressi dell'effettiva posizione, così da poter avere un posizionamento preciso. Al momento, le l'LTE è la tecnologia mappata in modo più accurato grazie all'uso del RSRP al posto del RSSI.

Una singola cella si estende per 5/10/15 km o più!

Sfortunatamente c'è poco da fare per questo. La maggior parte dei telefoni riporterà lo stesso Cell ID quando c'è una chiamata in corso. Allo stesso modo, alcuni telefoni rimangono "bloccati", riportando lo stesso Cell ID per un certo periodo di tempo. Un'altra possibilità è che il GPS del dispositivo riporti una posizione sbagliata, e come risultato la posizione potrebbe continuare a variare all'impazzata prima di fermarsi sulla posizione corretta. Per quanto l'app e il sito cerchino di filtrare questi dati sbagliati, non c'è molto da fare per correggere il problema. Man mano che altri dati verranno raccolti, questi errori diminuiranno, e la mappa risulterà sempre più precisa.

Why isn't the uplink/downlink frequency displayed when I map a region?

The frequency can only be retrieved with a BlackBerry device for certain. Certain Windows Mobile devices (Qualcomm based HTC devices) and all Windows Phone 10 device also support this. For Android, certain Motorola MotoBlur devices (Motorola Charm) support this; as well as most Android 7.0 or higher devices.

How long does it take for my data to appear?

It may take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days, and up to a week, for data to be generated.

What are "low accuracy" towers?

Low accuracy towers are towers whose location cannot be accurately predicted given the uploaded data. Therefore, they revert to a more simple algorithm of placing the tower closest to the location of the best signal strength. This will usually be significantly less accurate than the triangulation method normally used. Some towers that only have 1 or two cells, such as omnidirectional towers, will always be low accuracy. Likewise, any towers which were detected with weaker signals will also be low accuracy until stronger signal samples are uploaded.

What is "Estimated Frequency"?

Some networks have a known sector number to frequency band mapping. If it is known, it will be displayed on the site. If you know the mapping for a certain provider, please let us know so that we can include it.

What is "Android 4.2 CellID Support"? Why does it work on my devices?

In Android 4.2, the CellID API was re-written to ensure data is updated somewhat atomically to avoid bad data. Unforunately, some manufacturers, notably Samsung, have chosen not to implement this new API. Perché con le API per Android 4.2 abilitate, lo schermo non si spegne?

Why don't you have an iOS app?

Apple doesn't allow apps to use the network info API.

Why does my wiki/site user not work on all parts of the site?

Since we use different applications for different parts of the site, you will need to register separately for the wiki and website.

Why can't I register for the wiki?

Unfortunately, due to heavy spam, you will need to ask someone for permission to register.
